Tado
Mechanical Drive Noise or Gear Wear
Smart Radiator Thermostat makes loud clicking or grinding noises during operation.

Possible Causes
Worn internal gears in Tado head, Misaligned valve adapter causing strain, Valve pin travel too long, Foreign object inside valve area
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Let the radiator cool before handling the valve.
- Observe calibration: Trigger a calibration from the app and listen to the noise. Short, soft clicks are normal; loud grinding suggests mechanical stress.
- Check adapter fit: Remove the Tado head and verify the adapter is the correct type and firmly attached. Replace with the correct adapter if necessary.
- Check valve pin travel: Gently press the valve pin to feel its travel. Extremely long or stiff travel can overload the motor; a plumber may need to replace the valve body.
- Replace noisy head: If the noise persists on a correctly fitted valve, the internal gears are likely worn and the Smart Radiator Thermostat should be replaced.
