Possible Causes

Exposure to moisture and salt air, Inadequate enclosure sealing, Lack of anti-corrosion treatment, Poor drainage around pad

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, disconnect the battery negative terminal, and ensure no live AC is present at exposed terminals before cleaning.

  • Clean corrosion: Use a wire brush and contact cleaner on corroded terminals and ground points. Replace severely corroded lugs.
  • Apply protectant: After cleaning, apply dielectric grease to electrical connections and a rust-inhibiting spray to metal surfaces.
  • Improve drainage: Ensure the generator pad is above grade and that water does not pool around the base.
  • Seal enclosure: Replace worn door gaskets and ensure all access panels close tightly.
