Possible Causes
Loose or double-gasketed oil filter, Loose oil drain plug, Cracked crankcase or oil pan, Overfilled crankcase causing breather blow-by
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn generator OFF and allow engine to cool. Clean up spilled oil promptly to avoid slip hazards.
Steps:
- Locate source: Wipe down the engine and then observe where fresh oil appears—around the filter, drain plug, or gaskets.
- Filter and plug: Tighten the oil filter by hand (usually 3/4 turn after gasket contact) and snug the drain plug. Replace the filter gasket if double-gasketed.
- Check oil level: Ensure oil is not overfilled; drain excess if above FULL mark.
- Cracks or seals: If oil seeps from a crack or major seal, engine repair or replacement is required by a technician.
