Possible Causes
Battery off-gassing due to overcharging, coastal or high-humidity environment, water intrusion, lack of protective coatings.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and disconnect the battery negative terminal first, then the positive. Wear eye protection and gloves.
Steps:
- Clean battery terminals: Neutralize corrosion with a baking soda and water solution, then scrub with a wire brush. Rinse and dry.
- Check charger voltage: Ensure the Honeywell charger is not overcharging (should be around 13.2–13.8V). Replace the charger if the voltage is excessive.
- Protective spray: Apply battery terminal protectant and a light corrosion inhibitor to exposed metal surfaces.
- Improve sealing: Inspect enclosure seals and repair any gaps that allow salt spray or moisture inside.
