Possible Causes
Failed wash heating element, Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Wiring fault between heater/NTC and PCB, Faulty heater relay on main PCB.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool before working near the heater or tub. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Confirm symptom: Run a 60°C cotton cycle and check the door glass after 20–30 minutes. If it remains cold and E05 appears, suspect a heating fault.
- 2. Access the heater: Remove the rear panel. At the bottom of the tub, you will see the wash heating element terminals and NTC sensor.
- 3. Test the heater element: With the machine unplugged, disconnect the heater wires and measure resistance across the terminals. Typical values are 20–30 Ω. If an open circuit or a short to earth is detected (test between each terminal and the metal tub), replace the heater.
- 4. Test the NTC sensor: Disconnect the NTC plug and measure resistance. At room temperature, it is usually 20–30 kΩ (check Montpellier specifications). If the reading is infinite, zero, or does not change when warmed gently in your hand, replace the NTC sensor.
- 5. Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the heater and NTC to the PCB for burns, chafing, or loose connectors. Repair or replace as needed.
- 6. PCB relay: If the heater and NTC are in good condition but no voltage is supplied during heating, the PCB heater relay or triac may have failed. This is a board-level repair best handled by a qualified technician or by replacing the main PCB.
