Possible Causes
Failed user interface (UI) control panel, loose UI ribbon cable, moisture intrusion into console, failed main control board UI circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the washer before accessing the console or control boards.
- Power cycle: Unplug for 5 minutes, then reconnect and test. Intermittent UI glitches can clear with a reset.
- Inspect console for moisture: If the washer is in a humid area or recently splashed, allow the console to dry for several hours. Do not use a heat gun directly on plastic.
- Check UI ribbon cable:
- Remove the top panel and console screws to access the user interface board.
- Locate the flat ribbon cable between the UI and main control.
- Disconnect, inspect for corrosion or damage, and firmly reseat both ends.
- Test button response: With power restored, enter diagnostic mode (per Amana tech sheet in the console) and test each button. If some buttons do not register, the UI is likely defective.
- Replace user interface if needed:
- Order the correct Amana console/UI assembly by model number.
- Transfer any overlay or trim pieces as required.
- Reconnect wiring, reassemble console, and test operation.
Note: If a new UI does not resolve the issue, the main control board UI circuit may also need replacement.
