Washer will not start; door appears closed but F5E1 (door switch error) is displayed.

Safety: Unplug the washer before working around the door lock or front panel.

• Check door closure: Open and firmly close the door. Ensure no clothing is caught between the door and gasket.
• Inspect door strike: Look at the plastic door strike on the door. If cracked, loose, or missing, replace it.
• Listen for lock: Start a cycle and listen for the click of the door lock. If no click is heard and F5E1 appears, suspect the lock assembly.
• Inspect door lock assembly:
  • Remove the front panel or door boot clamp (depending on model) to access the lock.
  • Check the wiring harness for damage or loose connectors.
  • Reseat the connector at the lock and at the control board.
• Replace door lock if faulty: Remove mounting screws, swap in a new Amana door lock assembly, reconnect wiring, and reassemble.

If the lock and wiring are good but the error persists, the main control board may not be sending the lock signal and should be tested by a technician.
