Possible Causes
Broken drive belt (belt-drive models), failed drive motor, worn agitator dogs or splines (top-load), failed shift actuator (top-load), stripped drive hub
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the washer and drain water before tipping or accessing the bottom.
- Listen for motor: During wash, listen for motor humming. If the motor runs but the agitator does not move, suspect a mechanical disconnect.
- Check belt (if equipped): Remove rear or bottom panel and inspect the drive belt. Replace if broken, loose, or glazed.
- Inspect agitator (top-load):
- Try to turn the agitator by hand. If it spins freely without resistance, the agitator dogs or splines may be worn.
- Remove the agitator cap and bolt, pull the agitator, and replace the agitator dogs or the entire agitator as needed.
- Check shift actuator (top-load high-efficiency): Ensure the actuator properly shifts between agitate and spin. Replace if not moving or if F7E5 was previously seen.
- Test motor: If the motor does not run at all, test and replace the drive motor as needed.
