Possible Causes

Foreign object trapped between drum and tub, Seized drum bearings, Overloaded drum, Motor overheating or internal short

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer. Do not force the drum if it is jammed; this can damage the motor and belt.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Check for foreign objects: Rotate the drum by hand slowly. Listen for scraping or grinding. Shine a torch through the drum holes to look for bra wires, coins, or screws lodged between drum and tub. Remove via the heater opening or sump hose if necessary.
  • Assess drum bearings: With the belt removed, spin the drum by hand. Roughness, rumbling, or side play indicates bearing failure. Bearing replacement is a major repair.
  • Inspect motor and belt: Ensure the belt is not overly tight or misaligned. Check the motor for signs of overheating (smell, discoloration). If the motor shaft is stiff or seized, replace the motor.
  • Reduce load: If E08 occurs only with very heavy loads, advise the user to reduce the load size and avoid washing dense items together.
  • After clearing obstruction: Reassemble, refit the belt, and run a rinse/spin cycle to confirm normal operation without E08.
