Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer and turn off water. Expect water spillage when opening the pump.
Service the drain pump:
- Access pump: Remove the lower front access panel or rear panel (model dependent). Locate the drain pump at the bottom with hoses attached.
- Drain water: Use a wet/dry vacuum on the end of the drain hose or slowly remove the pump clean-out cap to drain remaining water.
- Inspect impeller: Remove debris such as coins, hairpins, or lint from the pump housing and impeller. Ensure the impeller spins freely and is not broken or loose on the shaft.
- Check hoses: Remove and inspect the tub-to-pump and pump-to-drain hoses for obstructions or internal collapse.
Test operation: Reassemble, plug in, and run a Drain/Spin cycle. If the pump hums but does not move water, or is excessively noisy, replace the drain pump assembly.
