Possible Causes
Worn agitator dogs or splines, broken drive belt (belt-drive models), failed lid switch, defective drive motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer and turn off water.
Check lid switch:
- On many Crosley top-loaders, the washer will not agitate with a failed lid switch. Open and close the lid; listen for a click. Test the switch for continuity and replace if faulty.
Inspect agitator and drive:
- Remove the agitator cap and bolt. Lift the agitator out and inspect the agitator dogs (small plastic pawls) for wear. Replace if rounded or broken.
- On belt-drive models, remove the rear or bottom panel and inspect the drive belt. Replace if broken, cracked, or glazed.
If the lid switch, agitator dogs, and belt are good, the drive motor or transmission may be at fault and may require professional diagnosis.
