Possible Causes
Worn drive hub or splines, failed clutch assembly, broken motor coupler (on some designs)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer.
Inspect drive hub/clutch:
- Remove the agitator and inner basket (model dependent) to access the drive hub. Look for stripped splines or cracks; replace if worn.
- On models with a clutch, remove the transmission cover and inspect clutch pads for wear or glazing. Replace the clutch assembly if slipping.
On older direct-drive designs, inspect the motor coupler between motor and transmission; replace if broken. These repairs require moderate mechanical skill.
