Possible Causes
Worn agitator spline or coupling, Broken drive belt (semi-automatic), Faulty wash motor winding, Stripped gear in transmission (gearbox)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer before accessing the agitator or motor.
- Check for obstruction: Remove clothes and inspect under and around the agitator/pulsator for trapped items.
- Inspect agitator coupling: Remove the agitator cap and bolt to lift the agitator. Check the spline or coupling for wear. Replace if rounded or stripped.
- Check belt (semi-automatic): Inspect and replace any broken or loose belt driving the wash motor.
If the motor hums but does not turn, the motor or gearbox may be faulty and should be serviced by a professional.
