Possible Causes
Blocked or kinked pressure sensor hose, Faulty water level (pressure) sensor, Stuck-open water inlet valve on Defy cabinet, Control board not shutting off fill
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer immediately if water is overflowing. Turn off the water taps.
- Reset and observe: After shutting off power and water, wait a few minutes, then plug back in and run a rinse/drain cycle while monitoring the fill. If water continues to enter with power off, the inlet valve is mechanically stuck open and must be replaced.
- Inspect pressure hose (advanced): With power disconnected, remove the top cover. Locate the small rubber or plastic hose running from the bottom side of the tub to the pressure sensor on the side or top panel. Check for kinks, splits, or blockages (soap residue). Remove the hose and blow through it to ensure it is clear, then refit securely.
- Check pressure sensor connection: Ensure the wiring harness to the pressure sensor is firmly connected and not corroded.
- Test fill again: Restore power and water, then run a short cycle. If E4 reappears or the machine overfills, the pressure sensor or inlet valve assembly is likely faulty and should be replaced.
Because overfilling can cause flooding and electrical hazards, if you are unsure, contact a Defy-authorized technician.
