Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the rear or bottom of the machine.
- Check for drum resistance: With the machine off, open the door and rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly. If it is jammed, there may be a mechanical obstruction rather than an electrical fault.
- Inspect drive belt: Remove the rear panel. Verify that the belt is still on both the motor pulley and the drum pulley. If the belt is off, frayed, or broken, replace it with the correct Defy belt type and tension.
- Check motor brushes (if fitted): On universal motors, remove the motor and inspect the carbon brushes. If they are worn down to a few millimetres, replace both brushes as a set.
- Visual inspection of wiring: Ensure the motor connector and harness are firmly seated and not burnt or damaged.
If the belt and brushes are good but E6 persists, the motor windings or control board may be faulty. This typically requires professional diagnosis and replacement.
