Washer door will not lock at start, E7 displayed, cycle will not begin

Safety first: Always unplug the washer before removing the door lock or front panel.

• Check door closure: Ensure no clothing is trapped between the door seal and glass. Close the door firmly until you hear a positive click.
• Inspect door strike: Examine the plastic or metal latch on the door (door strike). If cracked, loose, or missing, it may not engage the lock properly and should be replaced.
• Listen for lock: When starting a cycle, listen for a clicking sound from the door lock area. No click usually indicates a failed lock or wiring issue.
• Access door lock (advanced): Remove the retaining band from the front door seal and peel the seal back slightly. Unscrew the door lock from the front panel and pull it out. Check the connector for loose or burnt pins.
• Replace if faulty: If the lock body is heat-damaged or rattles internally, replace it with a compatible Defy door lock assembly.
