Possible Causes

Leak from door seal (gasket), Loose or cracked tub-to-pump hose, Leaking inlet hose or dispenser hose, Activated float switch in base tray

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer and turn off water supply immediately if a leak is suspected.

  • Inspect around machine: Look for water under or around the washer. Check the rear hoses, the door area, and the detergent drawer.
  • Check door seal: Examine the grey rubber door gasket for tears, holes, or foreign objects stuck in the folds. Clean away lint and residue. Replace the seal if damaged.
  • Inspect hoses (advanced): Remove the rear or front lower panel. Check the tub-to-pump hose, pump outlet hose, and inlet hoses for cracks, loose clamps, or signs of leakage. Tighten clamps or replace hoses as needed.
  • Empty base tray: Some Defy models have a float switch in the base. Carefully tilt the machine slightly backward (with help) to drain any trapped water from the base tray onto towels. Do not tip excessively to avoid internal damage.

After repairs, run a short cycle while observing for leaks. If E9 reappears, have a technician inspect the internal tub and seals.
