How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch off and unplug the washer before forcing the door.

Wait a few minutes: Many locks take 1–3 minutes to cool and release after the cycle ends.
Check for water: If you can see water through the glass, run a drain or spin cycle to remove it. The door will not unlock if water is detected.
Power reset: Unplug the washer for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in and try opening the door.
Emergency release: Use the manual release cord if your Defy model has one behind the pump filter flap.

If the door remains stuck, the lock assembly may need to be replaced.
