Possible Causes

Clogged drain pump filter, Blocked drain hose or standpipe, Foreign object in drain pump impeller, Faulty drain pump motor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the washer. Have towels and a shallow pan ready; water will spill when opening the filter.

  • Clean the pump filter: Remove the lower front access panel. Locate the drain pump filter cap. Place a pan under it and slowly unscrew the cap to let water drain. Remove debris such as coins, lint, or small garments. Clean the filter thoroughly and reinstall.
  • Check the drain hose: Inspect the hose at the back of the washer for kinks or crushing. Detach from the standpipe and check for blockages. Flush with water if needed.
  • Inspect pump impeller: With the filter removed, look inside the pump housing. Ensure the impeller spins freely and is not broken. Remove any obstructions carefully.
  • Test a drain/spin: Reassemble, restore power, and run a drain/spin cycle. Listen for the pump running. If it hums but does not move water, the pump may be failing.

Replace the drain pump assembly if it is noisy, seized, or shows signs of overheating.
