Possible Causes
Clogged drain pump filter, Blocked drain hose or standpipe, Foreign object jammed in drain pump impeller, Defective drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer. Water may spill when opening the filter; keep towels and a shallow tray ready.
Step-by-step checks:
- Clean the pump filter: Open the lower service flap on the front of the Grundig washer. Place a tray under the filter cap. Slowly unscrew the cap to let water drain. Remove the filter and clean out lint, coins, buttons, and other debris. Check inside the pump housing for obstructions.
- Check the pump impeller: With the filter removed, reach in and gently turn the impeller. It should rotate freely with slight resistance. If it is jammed or wobbly on the shaft, the pump may need replacement.
- Inspect the drain hose: Follow the drain hose from the back of the washer to the standpipe or sink. Ensure it is not kinked or crushed. Disconnect and flush the hose with water to clear blockages.
- Test the drain pump electrically: Access the pump from the rear or bottom (depending on model). Disconnect the pump connector and measure coil resistance (typically 150–300 Ω; check Grundig specs). If open or shorted, replace the drain pump.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the filter securely, ensure no leaks, plug in the washer, and run a drain or spin-only program to confirm operation.
