Possible Causes
Sticking door lock mechanism, Weak door lock solenoid, Faulty door lock feedback contacts, Control board timing or relay fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer. If the drum is full of hot water, allow it to cool before attempting manual door release.
Step-by-step checks:
- Manual release: Many Grundig models have a manual door release tab accessible through the pump filter area. Consult your user manual and gently pull the tab to open the door.
- Inspect door lock: Remove the door lock assembly and check for mechanical sticking or heat damage. If the latch does not move freely, replace the lock.
- Test lock coil and contacts: Measure coil resistance and check continuity of the lock's internal switch when engaged. Replace the lock if readings are out of spec.
- Control board: If a new lock does not resolve E16, the PCB may be misdriving the lock. Replacement of the main control board may be required.
