Possible Causes
Failed heating element, Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Loose wiring on heater circuit, Faulty main control board (PCB)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer and shut off water supply. Heating components can retain residual voltage—use caution.
- Run a cold-only cycle: Set the washer to a cold wash. If E5 does not appear, the issue is likely with the heater or temperature sensing circuit.
- Access the heater: On many Haier front-load models, the heater is mounted at the rear of the tub and accessible from the back panel. Remove the rear cover to expose the heater terminals and NTC sensor.
- Check wiring: Inspect connectors for corrosion, burning, or looseness. Reseat all plugs firmly.
- Test the heater: With a multimeter, measure resistance across the heater terminals. Compare to Haier specifications (typically 20–30 Ω; check service manual). Replace the heater if open or shorted.
- Test the NTC sensor: Measure resistance at room temperature and again in warm water; it should change smoothly. Replace the NTC if readings are erratic or out of spec.
- If all components test good: The main PCB may not be driving the heater correctly and may require replacement by a qualified technician.
