Possible Causes
Blocked drain pump filter, Foreign object in drain pump impeller, Blocked drain hose or standpipe, Failed drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer. Keep towels and a shallow tray ready for water spillage.
F05 is one of the most common Hotpoint errors and usually relates to drainage.
- Clean the pump filter: Locate the pump filter flap at the bottom front. Place a tray underneath. Slowly unscrew the filter cap to let water drain. Remove the filter and clear any coins, lint, buttons, or debris. Check inside the pump housing for obstructions.
- Check pump impeller: With the filter removed, gently spin the impeller with your finger. It should turn freely with slight resistance. If jammed or loose on the shaft, the pump may need replacement.
- Inspect drain hose: Check the external drain hose for kinks or blockages. Detach from the standpipe or sink trap and flush through with water.
- Check standpipe/sink trap: Ensure the household drain is not blocked, as this can cause back-pressure and F05.
- Electrical test (for competent users): With the machine unplugged, access the pump from the rear or bottom. Check the pump wiring connector is secure. If you have a multimeter, measure pump coil resistance (typically 150–300 Ω). If open circuit, replace the pump.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the filter securely, ensure no leaks, restore power, and run a drain or spin program.
Warning: Never run the machine with the filter removed; this can cause flooding and damage.
