How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer. Do not force the lid or drum.

F16 is specific to certain Hotpoint top-loaders.

  • Check for mechanical jams: Ensure no clothing is trapped in the drum mechanism. Gently rotate the drum by hand if possible.
  • Access position sensor: Remove the top and side panels to locate the drum position sensor near the drum shaft.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the sensor connector and wiring for damage or looseness. Reseat the connector.
  • Sensor test: If you have the service manual, follow the specified resistance or voltage tests for the sensor. Replace if out of specification.
  • Control board: If the sensor and wiring are good, the control board may not be reading the signal correctly and may require replacement.
