Possible Causes

Water still in drum due to drain issue, Faulty door interlock, Broken door handle or cable, Control board not sending unlock signal

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer. Do not force the door open as this can break the handle or glass.

  • Check for water: If water is visible, drain via the pump filter or emergency drain hose. Once empty, the lock may release after a few minutes.
  • Wait for delay: Many Hotpoint models have a 1–2 minute delay before unlocking. Wait and listen for a click.
  • Manual release: Access the door lock from the front lower panel or by removing the front of the machine (model dependent). Many locks have a manual release tab that can be pulled to open the door.
  • Inspect and replace lock: If the lock is not releasing electrically, replace the door interlock assembly.
