Possible Causes

Defective lid lock switch, Broken lid lock wiring harness, Misaligned lid strike, Failed main control board (MCU)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer from power before removing any panels. Do not bypass the lid lock for normal operation.

  • Power reset: Unplug the washer for 2–3 minutes, plug back in, and try a new cycle. Sometimes the control will clear a false E FL after a reset.
  • Check lid closure: Make sure the lid closes fully and the hinge is not bent. Inspect the plastic lid strike (tab) that enters the lock; if it is broken or loose, the lock will not sense the lid.
  • Inspect lid lock: With power disconnected, remove the top panel or front console (depending on model) to access the lid lock assembly. Check for broken plastic housing, burn marks, or loose connector.
  • Test continuity: Using a multimeter, test the lid lock switch terminals for continuity when the lid is closed. If the switch does not change state (open/closed) when actuated, replace the lid lock assembly.
  • Check wiring: Trace the harness from the lid lock to the main control board. Look for pinched, cut, or corroded wires and reseat the connectors firmly.
  • If lock and wiring test good: The main control board may not be reading the lock signal correctly. Inspect for burnt components; if present, replace the control board.
