Possible Causes
Clogged drain pump, blocked drain hose, foreign object in pump impeller, failing drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the washer and turn off water supply. Prepare towels and a shallow pan for water spillage.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Check external drain hose: Ensure the hose is not kinked or blocked. Remove the hose from the standpipe and run water through it with a garden hose to confirm it is clear.
- 2. Access and clean pump: Remove the lower front access panel. Place a pan under the pump. Remove the pump clean-out cap (if present) and clear all debris from the filter and impeller area.
- 3. Inspect pump impeller: Spin the impeller by hand; it should turn freely without wobbling. If broken or jammed, replace the pump.
- 4. Check tub-to-pump hose: Remove and inspect for socks or small items lodged inside. Clean thoroughly and reinstall with clamps tight.
- 5. Test drain function: Reassemble, plug in, and run a Drain/Spin cycle. If the pump hums but does not move water, or trips the breaker, replace the drain pump assembly.
Note: Repeated F21 after pump replacement may indicate a wiring or control board issue driving the pump.
