Possible Causes

Failed heating element, open or shorted NTC thermistor, wiring issue between heater/NTC and control, scaled heater causing overheat

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Unplug the washer and ensure the tub is drained before accessing the heater.

Step-by-step checks:

  • 1. Access heater: On many Inglis front-loaders, the heater is located at the rear of the tub, accessible from the back panel. Remove the rear panel to expose the heater terminals.
  • 2. Test heater resistance: Disconnect the wires and measure resistance across the heater terminals. Typical values are 10–30 Ω. An open circuit indicates a failed heater.
  • 3. Inspect NTC thermistor: If a separate sensor is present near the heater, measure its resistance and compare to the tech sheet chart. Replace if out of range.
  • 4. Check wiring: Inspect the harness from the heater and sensor to the control board for burns, breaks, or loose connectors.
  • 5. Replace faulty parts: Loosen the heater retaining nut, push the bolt in slightly, and carefully pull the heater out of the tub. Clean the opening and install the new heater with the gasket seated evenly. Tighten the nut just enough to seal.

Warning: Do not run the washer with the heater disconnected; this can damage the control board.
