Possible Causes
Shorted door lock switch, Control board door lock output stuck, Wiring short between the lock and board, Moisture inside the lock assembly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
- Safety First: Unplug the washer. Do not force the door open.
- Allow to Cool and Dry: If the Insignia washer has been running hot cycles, allow it to sit and cool down, and dry, in case condensation is affecting the lock.
- Manual Release: Use the manual release tab (if equipped) to open the door.
- Inspect Lock and Wiring: Access the lock and check for moisture, corrosion, or a burnt smell. Dry the area thoroughly.
- Replace Lock: If the lock appears damaged or E42 persists, replace the door lock assembly.
- Control Board Diagnosis: If a new lock does not resolve the issue, the control board's lock driver may be stuck, and the board will likely need replacement.
