Safety first: Unplug the washer. Do not force the door open.

• Allow to cool and dry: If the Insignia washer has been running hot cycles, let it sit to cool and dry in case condensation is affecting the lock.
• Manual release: Use the manual release tab (if equipped) to open the door.
• Inspect lock and wiring: Access the lock and check for moisture, corrosion, or burnt smell. Dry the area thoroughly.
• Replace lock: If the lock appears damaged or E42 persists, replace the door lock assembly.
• Control board diagnosis: If a new lock does not resolve the issue, the control board's lock driver may be stuck and the board will likely need replacement.
