Possible Causes
Worn agitator dogs or splines, Stripped drive hub, Loose agitator bolt, Faulty transmission or gearcase (on some Insignia top-load designs)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer before working inside the tub.
- Check for obstruction: Remove laundry and inspect around the agitator or impeller for trapped items.
- Test agitator movement: Try to rotate the agitator by hand. If it spins freely without resistance, the dogs or hub may be worn.
- Remove agitator: Pop off the agitator cap and remove the center bolt. Lift the agitator out to inspect the dogs or hub.
- Replace worn parts: Install new Insignia-compatible agitator dogs or drive hub as needed, then reassemble and test.
- Transmission issues: If the agitator is mechanically sound but still does not move during wash, the gearcase or transmission may be faulty and require professional service.
