Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the washer. Expect water spillage when opening hoses or pump filter; keep towels and a shallow pan ready.
Steps:
- Check drain hose: Ensure the drain hose at the back is not kinked, crushed, or inserted too far into the standpipe (which can cause siphoning).
- Clean pump filter: On many Kenmore front-loaders, remove the lower front access panel (3 screws at bottom). Place a pan under the drain pump clean-out. Slowly unscrew the pump filter cap and let water drain. Remove lint, coins, and debris from the filter and pump cavity.
- Inspect tub-to-pump hose: Squeeze and remove the black rubber hose from the tub to the pump. Check for socks or small garments lodged inside and remove any obstruction.
- Check pump impeller: With the filter removed, spin the pump impeller with your finger. It should turn freely and not be broken or wobbly.
- Test drain function: Reassemble, plug in, and run a drain/spin cycle. Listen for the pump running and watch the drain hose for strong flow.
- Replace pump if needed: If the pump hums but does not move water, or is silent with proper voltage (requires meter testing), replace the Kenmore drain pump assembly.
Note: Persistent F02 after cleaning usually indicates a weak or failed pump or a partial blockage in the house drain.
