Safety First: Unplug the washer. Do not force the door open; this can break the lock.

Steps:

• Manual release: On many Kenmore front-loaders, remove the lower front panel and reach up to the door lock area to pull the manual release tab or cable to open the door.
• Inspect latch and strike: Check for broken plastic pieces or obstructions around the latch. Replace damaged parts.
• Access door lock: Remove the front boot clamp and pull back the gasket to access the lock. Remove screws and pull out the lock assembly.
• Check wiring: Inspect and reseat the connector. Look for burnt or loose pins.
• Replace lock: If the lock is noisy, intermittent, or tests bad with a meter, replace the door lock assembly.
