Possible Causes
Overloaded drum, Seized drum due to foreign object, Failed rotor position sensor (Hall sensor), Stator or rotor failure on direct-drive motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer before inspecting the drum or motor. Do not force the drum to turn with power applied.
- Reduce load: Remove some items if the drum is tightly packed. Overloading can trigger LE. Try running a small test load.
- Check for drum obstruction: Rotate the drum by hand. If it binds or scrapes, inspect between the tub and drum for trapped items (bra wires, coins). Access may require removing the door boot or heater.
- Power reset: Unplug the washer for 5–10 minutes to reset the control board, then retry a cycle. Intermittent LE can sometimes be cleared this way.
- Inspect motor connections: Remove rear panel, check the wiring harness to the stator and Hall sensor for loose or damaged connectors.
- Test Hall sensor: If LE persists with light loads and free-spinning drum, the rotor position sensor is a common failure. Replacement requires removing the rotor (large center bolt) and stator cover.
- When to call a technician: If the stator windings are burnt, rotor magnets are damaged, or LE appears immediately on start, professional diagnosis of the motor and main PCB is recommended.
