Possible Causes
Clogged drain pump filter, Obstructed drain hose, Failed drain pump motor, Blocked tub-to-pump hose
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer and turn off water supply before working on it. Expect water spillage when opening the filter or hoses.
- Check drain hose: Ensure the drain hose is not kinked, crushed, or inserted too far into the standpipe. Straighten any kinks and verify the standpipe height per LG manual (usually 90–96 inches max).
- Clean drain pump filter: Open the small access door at the bottom front. Place a shallow pan and towels under it. Remove the drain cap and drain residual water. Unscrew and pull out the pump filter. Clean out lint, coins, and debris. Reinstall securely.
- Inspect tub-to-pump hose: If accessible, remove the front lower panel, check the black rubber hose from tub to pump for socks or debris. Clear any blockage and reattach with clamps tight.
- Test drain pump: With the washer reassembled, run a Rinse+Spin cycle. If you hear humming but no water movement, or no sound at all, the drain pump motor may be failed and should be replaced.
- When to call a technician: If the pump impeller is broken, seized, or the pump receives power but does not run, replacement of the drain pump assembly is required.
