Possible Causes
Load not distributed evenly, Mixed heavy and light items, Worn suspension rods or dampers, Out-of-level washer cabinet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not reach into a spinning drum. Wait until the drum stops completely.
- Redistribute load: Open the door/lid when safe. Separate heavy items (blankets, towels) and redistribute them evenly around the drum. Remove some items if the drum is overfilled.
- Sort properly: Avoid mixing a few heavy items with many light items. Wash bulky items separately or with similar weight items.
- Level the washer: Use a bubble level on top of the washer. Adjust the front and rear leveling feet so the washer is stable and does not rock. Lock the jam nuts.
- Check suspension: If the washer still bangs or shows UE frequently, inspect suspension rods (top-load) or shock absorbers (front-load) for oil leakage, broken plastic ends, or excessive play. Replace as a set if worn.
- Check drum play: Spin the drum by hand. Excessive side-to-side movement or grinding may indicate bearing or spider arm issues, which require advanced repair.
