Possible Causes
Failed door lock mechanism, Jammed latch, Control board not releasing lock, Broken handle or cable (some top-loaders)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer. Do not force the door open with tools that may damage the seal or glass.
- Wait for cool-down: If the washer has just finished a hot cycle, wait several minutes; some models delay unlocking until temperature is safe.
- Emergency release: Many Midea front-loaders have a manual release tab near the door lock behind the lower front panel or gasket. Pull the tab gently to open the door.
- Inspect lock: Once open, access the door lock and check for mechanical damage or burning. Replace the door lock assembly if faulty.
- Control board: If a new lock does not resolve the issue, the control board may not be sending the unlock signal and may require replacement.
