Possible Causes
Failing drum bearing seal leaking grease, Build-up of fabric softener and dirt, Mold and residue in tub
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the washer before internal inspection.
- Run cleaning cycles: Perform one or more hot maintenance washes with machine cleaner to remove internal residue.
- Inspect door seal and drum: Look for black slime or grease around the seal and drum holes. Clean thoroughly.
- Check for bearing failure: If there is also loud rumbling during spin, the bearing seal may be failing and leaking grease into the drum. Bearing or tub replacement will be required.
- Avoid over-softening: Reduce fabric softener use, which can contribute to greasy build-up.
