Possible Causes
Failed heating element, Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Loose or burnt wiring at heater, Defective main control board relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and allow the machine to cool before working near the heater.
- Step 1 – Confirm symptom: Run a 60°C cotton program and check the door glass after 20–30 minutes. If it remains cold and E05 appears, suspect the heater circuit.
- Step 2 – Access heater terminals: Remove the rear panel. At the bottom of the tub you will see the heating element terminals and NTC sensor.
- Step 3 – Test heating element: Disconnect the heater wires. Measure resistance across the heater terminals; typical values are 20–30 Ω. An open circuit or very low resistance indicates a faulty element. Check for earth leakage by measuring between each terminal and the metal tub; any continuity suggests insulation failure.
- Step 4 – Test NTC sensor: Remove the NTC from its pocket. Measure resistance at room temperature and compare with Schulthess specifications (commonly 20–30 kΩ at 20°C). If reading is far off or does not change with warming, replace the sensor.
- Step 5 – Inspect wiring and PCB: Check heater and NTC connectors for heat damage or corrosion. If components test good, the heater relay on the main PCB may be defective; PCB repair or replacement is recommended via a professional.
