Possible Causes

Failed door lock mechanism, Control board not sending unlock signal, Broken door handle or cable, Residual water not drained fully

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch off and unplug the washer. Do not force the door open, as this can break the lock and door.

  • Step 1 – Wait and reset: Allow 5–10 minutes for the lock to cool and release. Try unplugging for several minutes and plugging it back in.
  • Step 2 – Check for water in the drum: If water remains, drain it via the pump filter emergency hose or filter cap, then try to unlock it again.
  • Step 3 – Manual release: Many Schulthess models have a manual door release near the pump filter or behind the front panel. Pull the release tab or cable gently to open the door.
  • Step 4 – Replace the lock: Once open, test the door lock. If it fails to lock/unlock reliably, replace the door lock assembly.
