Possible Causes
Worn shock absorbers, Loose or broken tub counterweights, Damaged drum spider or shaft, Machine not leveled
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer. Do not continue to run the machine with severe banging as it can cause further damage.
- Step 1 – Level the machine: Check that all four feet are firmly on the floor. Adjust and lock the feet so the washer does not rock.
- Step 2 – Check load: Avoid overloading or washing single heavy items. Redistribute laundry and test again.
- Step 3 – Inspect shocks: Remove the rear or front panel to access the shock absorbers. Push down on the drum; if it bounces more than once, the shocks are likely worn. Replace both shocks as a pair.
- Step 4 – Counterweights and spider: Inspect the concrete weights for cracks and ensure bolts are tight. If the drum wobbles excessively or you hear metal scraping, the drum spider or bearings may be failing and require professional replacement.
