Possible Causes

Loose motor tachometer connector, Failed tachometer sensor on UniMac drive motor, Damaged motor harness, Faulty motor control circuit on main board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer before accessing the motor or underside of the machine.

  • Inspect drive motor connections: Remove the rear panel to access the drive motor. Check the multi-pin connector and the smaller tachometer connector for secure fit and signs of corrosion or damage.
  • Check harness: Follow the motor harness to the control board, looking for chafed insulation or pinched wires. Repair or replace damaged sections.
  • Test tachometer: With a multimeter, measure resistance across the tachometer terminals on the motor. Compare to UniMac specifications. An open or shorted tachometer requires motor replacement (tach is often integrated).
  • Spin test: With the belt removed (if belt-driven), spin the motor shaft by hand while monitoring AC voltage from the tachometer; a small voltage should be generated. No output indicates a bad tach.
  • Control board: If the motor and tach test good, the main control's motor drive circuit may be faulty and should be replaced by a professional.
