Washer makes a scraping or grinding noise when the drum turns.

Safety first: Unplug the washer before removing any panels or internal parts.

• Inspect drum: Rotate the drum slowly by hand and listen for scraping. Note the location where noise is loudest.
• Check drum baffles: Inspect plastic baffles inside the drum for looseness. Tighten or replace if loose.
• Access foreign object: Often objects can be retrieved by removing the heater element or sump hose from the bottom of the tub and reaching inside with a grabber tool.
• Spider/tub damage: If no object is found and scraping persists, the drum spider or tub may be damaged, requiring more extensive disassembly and possible tub or drum replacement.
