Washer displays E40 and door symbol flashes; machine will not start

Safety first: Ensure the drum is empty of water before forcing the door. Do not slam the door excessively.

• 1. Check for obstructions: Remove any clothing or objects trapped between the door glass and the rubber seal.
• 2. Close firmly: Push the door closed until a clear click is heard. Try starting the program again.
• 3. Inspect door alignment: Check if the door sags or rubs on the cabinet. If misaligned, the hinge screws may need adjustment or replacement.
• 4. Examine door catch: Inspect the door hook and the mating part in the lock. If worn or damaged, replace the V-ZUG door hook or door lock assembly.
• 5. Technician help: If E40 persists with a correctly closing door, the door lock switch or control module input may be faulty and should be checked professionally.
