An E04 error occurs, and the softener does not draw brine during regeneration.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and close the inlet valve before disassembling the injector or venturi. Have towels ready for minor water spills.
- 1. Check brine level: Ensure there is adequate water in the brine tank (typically 6–12 inches above the grid, depending on the model). If the tank is completely dry, the refill cycle may be failing (see E02).
- 2. Inspect brine line for leaks: Tighten compression nuts at both ends of the brine tubing. Any air leak will prevent suction. Replace cracked tubing.
- 3. Clean venturi/injector: Remove the injector cap on the Rayne control valve (usually under a small cover). Carefully remove the injector nozzle and throat, and any screens. Soak them in vinegar to remove iron or hardness buildup, then rinse and reassemble in the correct order.
- 4. Clear brine well: Remove the brine well cover inside the brine tank. Ensure the safety float assembly moves freely and that no salt bridges or sludge are blocking the bottom.
- 5. Test brine draw: Start a manual regeneration and observe the brine level. It should slowly drop during the brine draw stage. If not, further diagnosis of the brine valve or control head is needed.
When to call a technician: If cleaning the injector and checking the tubing does not restore brine draw, the internal brine valve or control body may be worn or cracked and should be serviced professionally.
