Possible Causes
Kinked or elevated drain hose, Blocked air gap, Clogged drain flow control, Frozen drain line
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Place the softener in bypass and relieve pressure before disconnecting the drain line.
Steps:
- 1. Inspect routing: Ensure the drain hose slopes downward to the drain and is not run too high above the softener, which can cause backpressure.
- 2. Check for kinks: Straighten any sharp bends or kinks in the hose.
- 3. Clean air gap: If an air gap fitting is used, remove and clean it to clear any buildup.
- 4. Clean drain flow control: Remove the drain flow control button from the valve and rinse it to remove debris.
- 5. Thaw frozen lines: In cold climates, ensure the drain line is not exposed to freezing temperatures. Thaw and insulate as needed.
- 6. Test regeneration: Reconnect the drain, take the unit out of bypass, and run a manual regeneration to confirm proper drain flow and that Err 17 clears.
