Possible Causes
Normal automatic defrost cycle, extended defrost due to heavy frost, or a defrost sensor misreading the temperature.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: On some Frigidaire wine coolers, dF simply indicates that the unit is in a defrost cycle and is not an error.
What to do:
- Wait for cycle completion: Allow 20–40 minutes for the defrost cycle to complete. The code should clear automatically and cooling will resume.
- Check for excessive frost: If dF remains for many hours and the interior rear wall is heavily frosted, unplug the unit and allow a full manual defrost (doors open, towels to catch water).
- Inspect door gasket: Ensure the door seals properly to prevent warm, moist air from entering and causing excessive frost.
- Monitor operation: After defrosting and restarting, observe if dF appears frequently and for long periods. If so, the defrost sensor may be misreading and should be tested.
When to service: If the unit stays in defrost and never cools, the control board or defrost sensor may be faulty and require professional diagnosis.
