Wine cooler shows E2 on the display; unit may run continuously or shut down prematurely and not hold temperature.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Disconnect power before opening any panels. Sharp metal edges and moving fan blades can cause injury.
Steps to address E2:
- Power cycle: Unplug the cooler for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect. If E2 reappears, proceed with inspection.
- Access the evaporator compartment: Remove interior shelves and the rear interior panel (inside the cabinet) to expose the evaporator coil and fan. On some NewAir models, this panel is held by several screws.
- Locate the evaporator thermistor: It is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing or mounted near the evaporator fins, with two small wires leading back to the control board.
- Inspect for damage: Check if the sensor is encased in heavy ice, broken, or has its insulation worn off. Look for wires that have been cut or rubbed by the evaporator fan blade.
- Defrost if iced over: If the evaporator is heavily iced, leave the unit unplugged with the door open for several hours or use a hair dryer on low, keeping it away from plastic parts and wiring. Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
- Check connections: Follow the thermistor wires to the control board (usually at the rear or bottom). Ensure the connector is fully seated and not corroded.
- Test the thermistor: With the sensor disconnected and the unit unplugged, measure resistance with a multimeter and compare to NewAir specifications. An open or shorted reading indicates a bad sensor.
- Replace if needed: Install a new NewAir evaporator temperature sensor / thermistor, clipping it securely to the evaporator tubing in the same location as the original. Route wires away from the fan and sharp edges.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the interior panel and shelves, restore power, and monitor operation for several hours to confirm the E2 code is cleared and cooling is stable.
Note: If the sensor is good but E2 persists, the main control board may be faulty and should be evaluated by a professional.
