Possible Causes
Stuck in defrost cycle due to control fault, Defective defrost sensor, Open defrost heater, Main PCB defrost control failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before testing heater or sensors. Avoid contact with sharp metal edges.
- 1. Power cycle: Unplug the unit for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in. Sometimes the control can be reset from a stuck defrost state.
- 2. Check for frost pattern: Remove the inner rear panel and inspect the evaporator. If it is completely encased in ice, the unit may not be defrosting. If it is completely dry and warm, the unit may be stuck in defrost.
- 3. Test defrost components: Follow the steps under E4 and E5 to test the defrost thermistor and heater. Replace any failed components.
- 4. Inspect main PCB: Look for signs of overheating or burnt traces near the defrost relay. If the board is damaged or does not energize the heater when commanded, replace the PCB.
- 5. Verify door gasket: Excess warm air infiltration from a bad gasket can cause frequent defrosting and related errors. Inspect and replace the gasket if needed.
Note: After repairs, reassemble all panels and allow 24 hours for normal frost and temperature patterns to return.
