dF
Transtherm Defrost Mode Indication / Defrost Cycle Active

The display alternates between temperature and dF; the unit may pause cooling periodically.

Possible Causes

Normal automatic defrost cycle, Extended defrost due to heavy frost buildup, Faulty defrost sensor or control logic if dF persists

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: No immediate hazard; this is often a normal indication. Unplug the unit before removing panels.

Steps:

  • Observe duration: If dF appears briefly and then returns to the normal temperature display, it is likely a standard defrost cycle and requires no repair.
  • Check for frost: If dF remains for hours and cooling is poor, inspect the evaporator area for heavy ice buildup. Defrost manually by unplugging the unit and leaving the door open until all ice melts.
  • Inspect defrost sensor: Verify that the evaporator sensor is correctly attached to the coil and that the wiring is intact.
  • Monitor after reset: After a full manual defrost and restart, if dF still persists abnormally, the control board or sensor may be faulty and should be tested or replaced.

Warning: Do not chip ice with sharp tools; you can puncture refrigerant lines.
