Possible Causes
Overheated drive motor, Worn motor start capacitor, Seized drum support rollers or rear bearing, Loose or slipping drive belt causing overload
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Moving parts can start unexpectedly if power is present.
- Check drum movement: With the dryer off, open the door and rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. Grinding, stiffness, or binding indicates mechanical drag.
- Inspect belt and pulleys: Remove the top and front panel to view the belt, idler pulley, and motor pulley. Ensure the belt is correctly routed and not frayed or jammed.
- Check drum rollers/bearing: Spin each support roller by hand. Replace any that are noisy, flat-spotted, or seized. Inspect the rear drum bearing (if fitted) for wear or scoring.
- Test motor capacitor: Locate the motor start/run capacitor near the motor. Discharge it safely, then test capacitance with a meter. Replace if out of specification.
- Allow motor to cool: If the motor overheated, allow at least 30 minutes of cooling, then test again. Repeated F5 after mechanical issues are corrected usually indicates a failing motor that should be replaced.
